The Samaritans are contacted every 6 seconds by people who need their help to deal with difficult emotions, including stress.
Whether it?s stress in the workplace or at home, all the money raised from Feel Good Friday will go towards manning the Samaritans? 24 hour helpline.

But what about you? Are you stressed at work?
5 Signs of a Stressed Workplace
The following signs are strong indicators that stress might be a problem in your workplace:
- High absenteeism and sick days
?
?
- A culture of long working hours
?
- A high turnover of staff members
?
- Low efficiency of workforce
?
If you recognise these signs in your workplace it might be time to take action.
?
Stress Relief
Here are a few ways that you can take action to combat your stress levels:
1. Get moving. Aerobic exercise is a great way to lift your mood. Get down to the gym for a work out session or simply take yourself out of the office at lunch time for a brisk walk. It will clear any cobwebs, give your mind a change of scene and allow you to gain some distance from what?s going on at work.
?
2. Can?t sleep? Getting enough sleep is vital if you are to cope well with stress of any form. Worrying about NOT sleeping enough can add to your stress. Try having a warm bath and eating a banana before you go to bed at night. Bananas contain potassium which helps you to sleep. If you have an iPod or MP3 player try listening to one of the audios on www.annemorrison.co.uk designed to relieve stress or to boost self esteem.
?
3. Try to avoid stimulants like nicotine, alcohol or caffeine which can feel like they are helping but which can exacerbate feelings of stress.
?
4. Eat well. Maintaining your blood sugar levels gives you a better chance of regulating your moods. Eating sugary foods can cause your blood sugar levels to crash and leave you feeling depressed and blue and this can make stress feel even worse.
?
5. Learn to say ?No?. If you have already got more than enough to do at work saying ?no? can mean that you take control and responsibility for your workload. For help in learning to say ?no? look at?www.annemorrison.co.uk.

Getting Better
According to the Stress Management Society (www.stress.org.uk), statistics from the government show that by working to reduce stress levels in the workplace:
- You can significantly improve working life for 20% of your staff, with all the knock-on benefits of reduced absenteeism and lower turnover.
- For every ?1 you invest in staff well-being, there?s a return of ?3 in improved efficiency and productivity.
